maxusxavier:secretninjavaughan:I’ve always loved this part- it just gives the me the shivers. It’s Al’s body language (pardon)- in that split second of oncoming danger, he grabs his elder brother and pulls him to his chest in such a protective (but also kinda badass) way, and that’s just so… Alphonse.Alphonse knows his body is expendable and replaceable. At times he might even think he’s made peace with that. But regardless of how he feels about his body he knows that he can be damaged but with one exception he cannot be hurt. On top of that he maintains an ideology that another individuals wellbeing is more important than his comfort, which is why he specialized in healing, repairing, and building while his brother focused on fighting, destroying, and trapping. It is also important that this focus on utilitarian alchemy is not the result of him being incompetent in a fight. As a result he not only has an unusually callous attitude towards his own safety but also an almost instinctual ability to protect others, often at the cost of his own safety. He is regularly seen letting his body be damaged and even wrecked, protecting anyone he can and even attempting to hide people (and pandas/cats) in his armor. This scene is so simple but it reinforces so many aspects of his character. -- source link
