hbst-v: hbst: PTIs (Physical Training Instructors), identifiable by their distinctive white singlets, are once a common sight in Singapore’s army camps. However, they are now being phased out and replaced by commercial fitness trainers. It is not easy to become a PTI, as the following article from Singapore’s Ministry of Defence points out: The trainees for the Basic Fitness Specialist Course are drawn from among the fittest combat specialists to pass out from the School of Infantry Specialists (SISPEC). Fitness Specialist trainees must have passed their Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) and Standard Obstacle Course (SOC). They are then put through intensive physical training to shape them into models of physical fitness. The highlight of the course is the Combat Physical Fitness Test that each trainee must complete within 52 minutes to qualify as a Fitness Specialist. It consists of: A 150m swim with a rifle in No. 4 (camouflage) uniform; A ‘combat jump’ from a three-metre springboard/platform followed by a further 50m of swimming; A 1.5km run in Full Battle Order (which includes rifle, helmet, webbing and full pack) to the SOC; Clearing of the SOC’s 11 obstacles in Full Battle Order; A final 3.5km run to the finish line. In addition, Fitness Specialists are trained to be proficient instructors and supervisors for swimming, weights training in the gym, various sports and games, and basic physical training lessons. They are trained to lead both by instruction and example. Sounds tough, isn’t it? Why do Singaporeans hate/love our PTIs so much? Hate: Some guys (esp straight ones) hate PTIs because they are envious of the PTI’s good looks and muscular bodies. In the military, PTIs are hated by recruits, because PTIs often torture/punish recruits with intensive physical trainings. Love: Thanks to all the gruesome trainings, PTIs are very fit and muscular. Add a boyish face to the package, and a PTI can easily melt many people’s hearts and become an object of erotic desires… Looking at their sculpted bodies, don’t you have horny fantasies of having sex with them? :p Reblogging a post from my old blog… PTIs are now history, as the Singapore Armed Forces have outsourced physical training to Cisco. I miss the good old days of seeing PTIs in camp… me too -- source link
