Is anyone else terrified of the increased antisemitic rhetoric in the news lately from invalidating the Jewish experience on @bbc to the recent CPAC news where Republican leaders pretty much confirmed themselves as White supremacists, these acts are insidious. It feels as though we’re on the cusp of repeating history. I also discovered yesterday (according to the Jewish Virtual Library) that Jews *still* have not reached our pre-WWII population. Nearly 1/3 of our people were wiped out between 1939 and 1945 - the fact that we have not even reached this milestone is a reminder of how recent the history is. Something I’d often tell myself growing up, after hearing stories of my grandparents fleeing Paris at the onset of the Holocaust, was this: if I was around at that time and I wasn’t targeted, I’d want to be the type of person who would fight against the oncoming terror. I do not want to be the person who sits idly by in my own comfort because my comfort is not worth someone else losing their life. Losing their lives. Losing cultures, ethnicities - so much of the beauty and diversity of the world that would be stripped away if white supremacy and Nazism were to continue unencumbered. I don’t know how much, if any, of what I’ve said about my experience as a Jewish woman is making a difference. But at the very least I hope some of those who follow me are able to see that Jewish people are just that: people. In seeing my humanity, I hope you are able to see all of ours - and feel motivated to speak up when you see or hear something you know is wrong. Thank you to those of you who have already used your platform to speak out against antisemitism. And if you haven’t yet, now’s the perfect time to start [image description: three ¼ slices of apple sit on a #secondhand ceramic plate atop cream-colored fabric.]#intersectionalenvironmentalist #intersectionalenvironmentalism #ie #zerowaste #lowimpactmovement #wastefree #trashfree #plasticfree #nowaste #notrash #noplastic #ecofriendly #sustainable #sustainability #socialactivism #activism #activist #antisemitism #useyourvoice #takeaction #judaism #includejewsinyouractivism #jewishactivist (at Brooklyn, New York)https://www.instagram.com/p/CL9VNBNnFSE/?igshid=1nk5vs3c78cpe -- source link
