greek-mythologies:This is from Varosha today. The Turks (I refused to call them Turkish-Cypriots) who support Tatar and his kin had gathered outside Varosha, some even wearing Turkish and “TRNC” flags, waiting for their chance to re-invade the once most famous area of Famagusta, if not the whole of Cyprus. Many even entered abandoned homes - homes that had been abandoned because of the Turkish invasion, homes that are under UN protection, homes that are still waiting for their owners (or the heirs of their owners) to come back and bring them back to life. These owners are not just Greek Cypriots. Many Turkish Cypriots were also forced to flee Varosha because of the Turkish invasion that took place in order to “protect them” (as if…) As you can see, these Turks don’t care about the war, or the catastrophe, or the human pain and conflict. All they need is to take a pretty picture for social media. (That being said, I wouldn’t be surprised if these homes have also been robbed as well, seeing that they’re already broken into with the Turkish media’s blessings.) Tatar and Erdogan are taking advantage of Varosha to win a damn election to a “country” with no global recognition whatsoever. And yes, I am also angry at the Republic of Cyprus, for having done nothing all these years to inform the international community on the importance of Varosha and also for taking no actual action to stop this madness. I am angry at the UN and the EU for following the same old cowardly logic of “we stand on the sidelines, we say we’re disturbed, we don’t take decisive action, dialogue FTW”. I am angry at all the Turks and the tourists (yes, Greek Cypriots included) who’ll visit Varosha, (un)aware that they’re contributing to Cyprus’s permanent division in this “harmless way”. I want to stay optimistic, but I find it all the more difficult. I have no idea how this is going to end and I fear that time is not running on our side. All I hope is that the Turkish Cypriots’ public fury will prevail and that Akinci will win re-election. He may not be perfect, but at least he does not advocate Cyprus’s division. Not to mention that Erdogan wants him out of office because Akinci apparently refuses to cooperate with him. These are good enough reasons for me, a Greek Cypriot who cannot vote for him, to support him. @alatismeni-theitsa, @gemsofgreece, @the-annoying-bitch, I know I tagged you before, so I hope you don’t mind me re-tagging you at this. P.S.: I know that Varosha has been visited by tourists and other people before. There’s plenty of material on the internet that proves it. But they did not support Tatar; they did not do it with Turkey’s blessings and not in this climate of ‘Divide Cyprus Now’. And they definitely did not do it with Tatar claiming they have already received big investments to rebuild Varosha…. -- source link
