Mary Dorothea Whitmore, Mrs Francis Laing (c.1820-c.1830). British (English) School, possibly Margaret Sarah Carpenter (English, 1793-1872). Oil on canvas. Dudmaston, Shropshire, Midlands, National Trust.Mrs Laing (1781-1872) was wife of the Reverend Francis Laing and sister of William Wolryche-Whitmore. She is seated at a table, holding an open book. Her thumb and finger mark two places as if she were comparing passages. She is depicted with short brown hair with a curl on her forehead, wearing a white dress.
