I finished my 1730’s waistcoat last night!I’ve had this bit of brocade for years and it’s the best fabric in my stash, so I’ve been avoiding using it. But now I have used it! And there’s still 2 and a half metres left. With some piecing I was able to fit both fronts onto one width, which is very narrow - only 68 cm. I pieced the linen lining in the back too. It’s a vintage Japanese silk brocade that my aunt gave me, and it’s much Much more accurate to the early 18th century than any modern brocade I’ve seen. I’m so excited to finish this suit! The dark green in the brocade matches my coat wool perfectly! I still need to do the breeches. I should have started with them, but oh well.I will get some better photos of this… sometime. I just moved out of my parents place, so I can’t easily borrow my mothers expensive camera anymore, and my sad little camera has mysterious dirt trapped in the lens. The lighting and mirrors here are also bad. And somehow I happened to be wearing the only non-18th century shirt in my wardrobe yesterday. But my waistcoat is done and I have hardly any complaints about it! -- source link
