vincentbriggs:This isn’t historical or fancy, but I think it’s good to post about small repairs too. The covers on these headphones had gotten very dirty and gross, because the protective vinyl layer on the fabric had completely flaked off, so I replaced them with small scraps of stretch knit fabric. It was very easy!I pulled the old pieces of fabric off, leaving 2 pieces of foam about the size and shape of a pineapple slice, and cut a pair of circles out of my knit about 2 cm bigger than the foam. With a heavy waxed linen thread and a tapestry needle I did a running stitch all around the circle, about 1 cm in from the edge. I positioned the foam pieces in the middle of the circle and put them back on the headphones, pulling on the thread to gather up the edges and force them into the groove where the original fabric had been. I tied the ends a few times to secure them, trimmed off the ends and also any seam allowance that was sticking out. It only took a few minutes! I’m sure they’ll eventually get gross like the previous fabric did, but I have plenty more scraps to replace them with. -- source link
