notpulpcovers:A reader named Luke sent in these covers, along with this note:I thought you might want to see what the British were producing in the early 1950’s. Okay, some of these covers are bad (Mushroom Men) but remember that the UK is a grim place when these were being produced. Rationing didn’t end until 1954 and most of these covers were drawn by gifted amateurs (or not) for a pound or two. The exception being Ron Turner - a fantastic cover artist as well as a comic artist. Some of the covers bare no relation to the story (Time Trap is about a man, this chauffeur and his girlfriend getting trapped by a time warp in another dimension, sort a Bermuda Triangle - no space suits despite the cover). You’ll notice the name Vargo Statten, a lot! This was a pseudonym for John Russell Fearn and he managed to write a science fiction novel every month for about 4 years as well as edit his own magazine. Also at the same time as writing Western and Detective novels.via NOT PULP COVERS -- source link
