Gwyn Ap Neath is a Welsh mythological figure associated with Glastonbury Tor, which I had the immense privilege of visiting on Samhain through @lightgreyartgallery‘s Southern England trip as part of #teamivy. Gwyn was a Psychopomp and the God of the Winter Night Sky, associated with the constellation Orion. In post-Christian folklore, Gwyn was demoted to the King of the Faeries and of Hell. The thorns in the foreground are Sloe, or Blackthorn, a plant symbolizing winter and death. Gwyn is a fascinating figure, and the folklore around him contains parallels to the story of Hades and Persephone. He is sometimes accompanied by a white owl, which may bring to mind a certain other Goblin King. -- source link
