sirfrogsworth:noblexcelestemorningstar:conservativemalarkey:sirfrogsworth:Wouldn’t this split the conservative vote in half and make them lose more elections? Should I be rooting for this to happen? Or is there some terrible aspect to this I’m not seeing? the terrible aspect is that thanks to the way the American two-party system works, generally when a party splits like this, one half of the party diesthe real risk here is that America winds up with the “hardline fascist” party and the “everyone else” partyThat and having an established, mainstream fascist party like this is uh… bad. Very bad. Normalization of fascism and like, possibility of real power being taken bad. So do you not feel the current Republican party is not that already? They all voted for Trump. They all approved of Trump. At a rate of 95% I believe. Only 7 GOP senators voted to convict. How is the current Republican party not a mainstream fascist party that is normalized?I’m just wondering if we had two smaller fascist parties who can’t get elected might allow them to kill each other off. I have no idea if that would actually work, but I also don’t know anything else that might work. It’s all very disheartening. I’d argue that they’re not *quite* one yet, though they’re on the verge of going full fasc. Honestly the only reason I think we *don’t* have a fully fascist GOP is that the coup attempt scared a good deal straight, or at least made them realize how bad this is for their reputations. I get a feeling that a split like this would allow a much more openly and viciously fascist presence in government than we’ve had before. Sure, the remainder clinging to “Republican” (rather than Trumpist or w/e name they decide on) would be easier to deal with, and probably a slight bit less horrible, but you’d also have *openly and proudly fascist candidates* in certain elections. You’d also probably see a weakening of the other two (our current two) parties, which sets us up for an even nastier fascist takeover. -- source link
