My alma mater (Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA) has a tradition called White Dinner, which is the winter formal dinner/dance. It was originally called White Dinner because it was a women’s college and earlier in the 20th century, every young woman owned at least one white dress (it was like the Little Black Dress today) so they could all wear their white dresses for White Dinner. Sometimes they served all white food at the dinner, as well! In more recent years, only seniors were allowed to wear white dresses/gowns to White Dinner.^me in my White Dinner gown, Nov. 2007 -- source link
