phrynefishersfrocks:Phryne’s fourth costume of “Away With the Fairies” (Season 1, Episode 8) features her red wool coat and matching skirt, a geometric shirt, and a fabulous red and black straw hat.Her red wool coat is a regular staple of Miss Fisher’s closet, appearing five times so far in the series, three of which include her matching wool skirt, with her high-waisted white silk faille pants completing the other two looks. She wears the coat twice in “Cocaine Blues” (1x01), once in “Death at Victoria Docks” (1x04) and “Ruddy Gore” (1x06) before its appearance in this episode. We’ll get to see her geometric chiffon blouse and skirt more closely in the next post, but the real statement piece is (as per usual) Phryne’s showstopping hat. This red and black number is a change of pace from her usual cloche or hood, made of dyed straw with a wide brim. It has black ribbon trim for the edge and the band, and an eye-catching design of red and black dyed straw swirl detailing imitating a series of flowers, alternating between red petals and a black center to the reverse and shrinking in size as the design grows outward. The hat reappears in “Death By Miss Adventure” (1x10), accenting the same red wool coat and skirt.Season 1, Episode 8 - “Away With the Fairies”Screenshots from here, hat photos from Loran’s World and Mandy Murphy Millinery, compilation photo of Miss Fisher’s red coat by me. -- source link
