Both the Old Euro and Modern Round Brilliant cut diamonds are round. That’s about where the similarity ends. When they are set in a ring, they look very similar, but you can easily identify an Old European cut by the larger culet facet on the very bottom of the diamond. When you look at the diamond from the top, it appears as a “hole” smack dab in the center. Modern Round Brilliants have smaller culets and lack that “hole-like” characteristic! -- source link
