serazienne:Les Trente-six vues de la tour Eiffel, Henri RivièreThese thirty-six lithographs, created between 1888 and 1902 by French artist Henri Rivière, are a double hommage: to the newly constructed Eiffel Tower, a symbol of France’s modernity, and to the Japanese artist Hokusai’s series “Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji.” Like Hokusai’s work, this series plays with distance and perspective, in showing the Eiffel Tower both close up and from a far distance, and, also as in Hokusai’s work, highlights workers’ lives and the “vie quotidienne“ of Paris.(Rivière is most widely known as the artist of the “Tournée du Chat Noir” poster.) -- source link
