septembriseur:#okay i know people are obsessed with the actual hallway fight (and i am! too! so much!)#but what got to me - and what i think takes the entire scene from one level to holyfuckingshit this show took the gloves off -#is the framing of that hallway fight tour de force#for me this; matt walking into the frame like some caged animal - head down father’s fighting bandages on breathing hard#already#he walks in and looks like nothing human nothing nice and you know what he was talking about in the opening monologue#the devil is in him#(and i haven’t talked about the end-framing - disappearing into the cell and coming out human again)#but the framing!#it’s not just the incredible fight scene#it’s the entire way it’s bookended and framed and set up#and so much of it is in the physicality of matt#it’s got its claws in me (okayophelia)This to me is formally the best episode of the show, and it’s precisely because of stuff like this— the pretty explicit parallel between Matt (seen here) and his father (seen moving towards his last fight), each of them assuming violence onto himself as he enters into the area of violence, and the way in which this reading causes the scene to call forward to Vladimir’s later comment: “The moment you put on the mask, you got into a cage with animals.”Read More -- source link
