pinofs:WEEK ONE -> Quotes. She sighed and stepped even closer to him, pressing her chest against his. He felt her lips brushing his ear as she spoke. “I want you to promise me something.” She said it softly, in barely more than a whisper.Chills broke out all over Thomas’ body. “Um…. what?”She didn’t pull back, just kept speaking into his ear. “No matter what happens, even if you have to go alone, you’ll take me all the way back. All the way to WICKED, to that cure you promised Jorge – he told me about it in the storage room. I can’t stay here and slowly go insane. I can’t do it. I’d rather die.”Why?This scene, out of many with Brenda, was when I realized something was definitely up. Maybe it was the way she phrased her request, or how she was so cuddly with Thomas, like she knew in the end they’d be safe. I didn’t know the extent of what Brenda was doing or who she really was, but this was my first alarm that maybe she wasn’t just a random Crank in the Scorch. But, on that same note, I love the fact that she makes Thomas promise her that he’d take her back to WICKED, because in a way, she’s making sure that he gets out alive as well. If Brenda doesn’t make it, Thomas dies in the long run. I don’t know if she knew this, of course, but I do think it’s foreshadowing. This whole fucking book is foreshadowing. I gave my soul to the devil. -- source link
