The image has four figures in it. the central figure is Icarus who has warm brown skin and is lying draped on a rock unconscious, he is heavily muscled and unclothed except for some fabric across his pelvis . his wings, resembling a birds wings, are splayed either side of him, the left pointing up towards the top of the piece and the right curled up a little and pointing to the right. his arms are resting relaxed on the wings. there are three nymphs around Icarus, all of them female and bare-chested with pale skin and warm brown hair. one is seated behind him and has one hand tucked under his draped arm, she looks mournfully down at him. another nymph sits behind her also looking mournful and holding a small harp. the small section of background visible behind this nymph is that of still water and a rock face. the third nymph is in the bottom right hand corner looking up at him, her head and top shoulders are only visible. the piece is very warmly coloured in creams, oranges and browns. the artist has added top surgery scars to Icarus, because they can.
