artofalexfields:I have been a fan of SHINee for 10 years. They’re one of the first k-pop groups that I listened to along with DBSK and f(x). To learn that a member of SHINee passed away really depressed me on a deep level especially when I take into account that he was integral in making SHINee as successful as they were, creating their sound and style and bringing his talent to the table to make SHINee one of the most well-known K-pop groups in the industry, he was a supporter of LGBTQ rights, which for me, being gay is really important to me and because he’s struggled with depression, sought help and was not given the attention he needed. Jonghyun’s death reminds us all how important mental health is and how much it is stigmatized in society, not just in S. Korean but in many countries. He is an example of the struggles that many artists face no matter what profession or craft they practice. We must remember that suicide is not the answer. I stress this as someone who used to be suicidal; If you’re feeling suicidal, please call a suicide prevention hotline, speak to someone who’s willing to listen and don’t give up. Put your mental health first. You can’t function in life without your mental health. Can’t guarantee that everything will get better but unless you work through it and take everything one day at a time, you will never know. For all the SHINee fans out there who are artists, let’s let Jonghyun live on through our fanart. -- source link
