Bolts by @lqtraintracks Harry joins the Hogwarts staff as the new History of Magic Professor, while Draco has already been teaching Defence Against the Dark Arts for the past year. When Samantha, a first year, is being bullied one day and throws a made-up Truth curse at her harasser, only to accidentally hit Harry instead, Harry becomes cursed to tell the truth, and not only that, he has to regularly tell it to Draco Malfoy. Samantha is clearly gifted, maybe the most powerful witch or wizard to ever come through Hogwarts, and yet she has no idea how to take the curse off. As they work to remove it—and also teach Samantha how to control a power that’s becoming more dangerous by the day—will Harry’s truths become too much to handle? She just slammed this longfic out and I went “oh mah god, my berries beautiful drarry fic.”In all seriousness though, I love a lot of lqt’s fics and this is her biggest (currently) body of work and you can definitely see the labor of love that was put into this. The way Harry and Draco bounce off of one another (first with a lot of irritation and anger and then y’know, love) is just great. But, aside from Draco and Harry my favorite parts of this story are all the OC’s??? They have my entire heart? I could read a whole sequel just about Samantha, I want to know how she’s doing and what she’s up to. Gerald is such a good boy? And I need a Madam Blanton at my front door to ward off intruders lol. Such a good fic 11/10 recommend, the world that lqt built kept me hooked all the way.MaterialsAfter Dreaming Darkly and Away Childish Things I knew I wanted to do more three piece bradel bindings. The contrast between the spine and cover boards gives my eyeballs nice tinglies.  The cover boards have been covered in Hollander’s navy imitation suede. Yes, it was hell to work with. I did another inset for this binding as well! Is it recycling pretty much the same thing I just did? Yeah, kinda. Inset paper is this iridescent gold from Mulberry and the word ‘Bolts’ has been accomplished with black heat reactive foil.The spine cloth is actually an imitation leather paper from Neenah Paper. I really like the imitation leather you can get form Hollander’s and Neenah Paper sells Skivertex which is one of those brands. I thought that if I bought directly from them then I could back it and it would look the same… Uh. No. That didn’t work. Do I like it? Yes. Will I use it as a spine material again? No. Continuing the ‘traditional’ idea of endpapers and marbling like I did with lqt’s anthology, end papers are this blue marbled paper from Hollander’s.Endbands are a blue and yellow DMC pearl embroidery thread.I also messed the heck out of my own personal copy when doing the inset. I thought a smaller space between the title and the boards would look better. When I had done placement with it before I pasted the boards down it worked fine but hot damn if it didn’t look like a mess after. I decided adding more space on lqt’s copy would be more preferable. My copy on the left, ltq’s on the right. TypesettingThe design theme for this book is, well. Lightning bolts lol. lqt got the name from this song by Iko, and the title of the story is Bolts. That’s about as deep as the design gets to be quite honest.The ‘Bolts’ in the lightning bolt was accomplished with the pen tool and just conforming the letters to the shape.  The over arching theme aside from the whole *spoiler* is the *spoiler* and I didn’t want to do the *spoiler.* So, I figured I’d let the lil bolts and slytherco’s art take over for this one.Lqt’s anthology is pretty minimal so I figured I’d be pretty minimal with this one as well. A lil neat thing I did was that the chapter running headers (running… foredgers?) are similar across both books and along the fore edge. Illustrator file mess below! -- source link
