“Mr. Jangles was a wild buck in the beginning. A young rooster can and will mate 1.2 million times a day (okay, maybe a tad exaggeration). They mellow out as they age out.Now, that’s not always the case. But they SHOULD mellow out as they mature. Mr. Jangles has learned to be more attentive before requesting. Young cockerels don’t care if the hen is on the nest or trying to eat. Occasionally, I’ve had to separate a new cockerel for a few days to give my ladies a break. I always intervene if the rooster/cockerel is TOO ROUGH. I don’t want an aggressive rooster’s bloodline in my flock. You get to decide what’s best. It’s your flock!
