7 of my 8 great-grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Europe. Four of them from Italy, two from Ireland, one from Germany. Another great-grandparent (Angelo) was born in Florida, but his parents immigrated from Sicily. I grew up in the same house with him & Great Grandma Laura who came to New York via Ellis Island in 1920. She came on a boat called The Dante Allighieri from a town called Massaquano, because her brother’s wife had died and her mother would help raise his children. She was 10 years old.
