wumblr: i’ve made 300k from my purple hasee plushie portfolio this fiscal quarter weirder aspects of that: i hoarded them for years before there was any demand i still don’t know why people are buying them now everyone buys a pair and none of the customers are repeats (i only stock them 2 at a time, they move quickest that way) i find it hard to believe that the demand is due to decreased supply, but it’s possible. any price change is subject to bandwagoning and that’s part of why it’s so easy to neopricefix – you’re never alone, there are perpetually hawklike opportunists scouring the shop wizard i picked this item because it’s part of a pair (there’s an orange hasee plushie) and they were at a comparable price when i started hoarding (~10np). after collecting almost a thousand purple plushies in a multi-year effort to fuck with the price, the control item, orange hasee plushie, has inflated at almost exactly the same rate, suggesting perhaps my actions here have nothing to do with the price fluctuation, or perhaps there is a symmetrical crisis actor who collected a thousand orange hasee plushies unknowing of my nearly identical efforts you might think that the invisible hand of the neomarket would dictate that symmetrical items must be similarly priced, and you could theorize that the price of orange hasee plushies was pricematched by the collective unconscious, but i don’t think that would be a cogent theory as a sidenote, the snicklebeast was inflated to 20k (actually 50k last week) by neopets user awesome, who then gave them all away at the money tree, fulfilling an economic thought experiment i had considered previously – does the price rise or fall if you give away a hoard? evidence so far would seem to suggest it falls but you have to consider that it should have fallen similarly if awesome had not given them away, because that’s exactly what purple hasee plushies did when i drove them to 50k in dec 2014. (it’s not really a fair comparison anyway because snicklebeasts were never 10np and they’re an avatar item.) people are hoarding rarity 90+ items in anticipation of the next charity corner, since toys has been one of the categories in the past. I suggest you hold onto your plushies until charity corner–that way you can gamble yourself or sell the plushies for a way higher price in case toys do end up being one of the categories! -- source link
