romanovsonelastdance: Heir Tsesarevich Alexei Nikolaevich of Russia, 1904. In the year 1904 I was at Michailovskoe for the last time; my betrothal took place shortly after our return to Gelbensande. In August of that summer the ardently-desired heir to the throne was born, little Grand Duke Alexei. This event caused great and sincere joy through-out Russia, and countless hopes were centered on the life of this poor little boy, who seemed destined one day to be the ruler of Russia. The parents were extremely delighted, especially as the Tsarina had four times presented her spouse with daughters instead of the expected heir to the throne. For the Tsarina the event meant also an increased prestige among the people, and therefore seemed to be the beginning of a happier time. Crown Princess Cecilie, Memories -- source link
