This a type of strap known as a Glasgow school strap - of the type issued up until the late 1980s to Glasgow schools - It is made of XH (extra heavy) thick leather. It can be, and was commonly used on hands in school, but is really better suited to use on bottoms as it was in the home - preferably bare bottoms so that one can assess the severity and number of strokes accordingly. It leaves square ended welts where the three ‘tails whip around and bite into the woman’s bare bottom. If you want ‘a good belting’ this is one of the implements to consider - but be warned - those square welts from the tail ends can last for a week or more. -- source link
