Finally got that old Deutsche Werke rifle working,Made in Germany during the 1920’s, this little rifle is a single shot breach loading .22 made as a youth rifle for young children. Originally this rifle belonged to my uncle. In 1996 his basement was flooded and we salvaged it from three feet of water and mud. For the next 16 years it sat in my dads gunshop neglected and unheaded. My Dad gave it to me about a month and a half ago. Despite surviving a flood it was in suprisingly good shape. I have cleaned it up, spending enough time scrubbing down the parts with Hoppes 9 that I grew woosey. I spent an hour alone scrubbing out and cleaning the bore. It didn’t fire, so I replaced the firing pin spring with a mystery spring out of a spare parts box. The stock is in great condition, and all I needed to do was clean it up and polish it with some lacquer. The screw on the front was partially stripped, couldn’t be removed from the stock, and had to be banged out, which removed a small portion of the front stock with it. The screw was cut down to good threading and hole in the stock deepened. The small piece that broke off was glued back on. Doesn’t look to bad considering it spent a week under mud and muck, plus a decade and a half collecting dust, and some abuse from my kitchen gunsmithing skills. -- source link
