heavensims:Using S3PE to add/edit Thumbnails and Change TextUsing an existing THUM (red):Export existing thum to file.Leave the name the same and save it where you want it.Edit in your editor (I use GIMP but whatever). When you save, make sure to save keeping the exact same name.Import from file, select your edited image. (It’s usually best to do one at a time and then move them because the file names are next to useless). It’ll bring up the resource window. Don’t change any of the details and make sure “replace duplicates” is selected. This will overwrite the old one with your new. Save and you’re done!Importing a THUM when there wasn’t one (blue):Create your thum and name it whatever you’d like (not pictured).Import from file and select your created image (note that thums sizes are different depending on the item). The resource window will come up but everything will be all zeroes. For the TYPE - the THUM you will use depends on the item you’re making. For CAS objects, type thum 0x6 and select one of the following - (the one that ends in D is for 128x128 images, the one that ends in E is for 256x256 images). For object thumbnails, you will type thum 0x05 (B6 ending is for 128x128, B5 for 54x54, and B4 for 32x32). Your THUM is added but it won’t show in game yet since the instance is all zeroes. You need to do one extra step.Select the CASP resource and double click it to bring up the resource window. Copy the instance and then click cancel.Double click the newly imported THUM resource and, in the instance box, paste the numbers you just copied. Click Ok. Save and you’re done. (Note - for some items, you’ll need to change the last digit of the group. If your thum doesn’t show in game, try changing the group’s last digit to 1. I don’t know what the rule that governs this is though so I can’t tell you exactly what needs it and what is fine with all zeroes).S3PE and STBLs (green) - STBLs contain the text that you see in game - the name of the item and the description in buy mode for an example. You can use S3PE to change them (if you want to add the creator’s name for example).Select the STBL resource and click “Grid” on the bottom of S3PE. This will bring up the Data Grid. There will be 3 tiny dots on the right hand side. Click them to bring up another data grid.In the first section [0], change the Val to change the name of the item. Select the [1] and change that Val to change the description. Once done, click okay, then commit. Save your package. The problem with this, at least with most custom content anyway, is that creators delete the KEY resource which saves the names of the different resources. Without the key, it’s complicated knowing which STBL is the correct STBL for your game (English for mine, for example), especially if the creator has copied the English string to ALL the strings. I mean, you could go through and edit all of them by hand but that’s way more effort than I’m interested in. Instead, I use CmarNYC’s STBL Editor which is really easy and straightforward to use. -- source link
