witchyfishyfun:aquatic-lesbian:Hello Bettablr! This is my fish Wart. I got him for half price at Petsmart because of this strange growth he has on his side. I’ve been treating it with aquarium salt for months now and it doesn’t seem to be doing much? Could anyone help me with id whatever this is and tell me how to treat it? He doesn’t seem to mind it at all, he’s very wiggly and eats like a champ. He’s in a 35 gallon heated and filtered with live plants and 4 kuhli loaches (I’ll be getting more soon to fill out the school). Thanks!!To me this looks like body rot, bad. Unfortunately, aquarium salt won’t do much at all for healing. I suggest getting something stronger like KanaPlex or Tetracycline. I’d advise quarantining him, but if he’s been living with the loaches already they may already have a chance of getting sick too. I’d dose the whole tank and then for the future I recommend avoiding putting obviously ill fish with healthy ones. Especially loaches. Which reminds me… @justnoodlefishthings would those meds be safe for loaches?Anywhoo, for the future, setting up a quarantine tank is a good idea. I really hope this guy will make it- if he’s eating, that’s a good sign.Good luck!Oof that is a nasty infection D:I’m pretty sure I’ve used KanaPlex in my loach tank before to no ill effect. You can also mix KanaPlex with a gel food and administer the antibiotics directly into the fish. They also make pellet food with antibiotics. If you’re interested in a medicated food, I can go check which one I have because I totally forgot. I used it on my loaches after one of them got a bad scrape and they were fine :) -- source link
