adventurotica:painkillerscoffeeandcathair:adventurotica:I despise messages like this. Like “Oh, you lost your home and you have a fatal disease and your family abandoned you? Well, just TAKE THIS AS A LESSON.” It’s like, fuck you. There is no guiding benevolence in the world. Bad shit is just bad shit. If you can make something from it, great, but you can’t always, or even often. Mostly, that shit just sucks and the best you can do is deal. There are lessons I have learned from my illness, and they are valuable ones. But I do not believe that this is something that “God” wants me to learn, or that “the universe” wants to teach me. This is *my* choice.Exactly. People who say “There’s a lesson in bad stuff” are the same kinds of tools who say shit like “Everything happens for a reason” or “Your disability id so inspirational”. They act like the whole universe is just there for their own personal self-actualization. Ugh, I hope they get run over by a bus so they can “learn” from it.Every time some fuckfaced dickwattle says some shit like this to me I always want to be like “BAM” and punch them in their stupid bitch faces and say “FIND THE LESSON IN THAT, DOUCHEGUZZLER.”The fact that we can learn from and find meaning in pain, tragedy, loss, defeat, and failure is A WONDERFUL THING ABOUT PEOPLE, not a wonderful thing about pain, tragedy, loss, defeat, or failure. So don’t go around spouting this bullshit at people as though it makes horrible things any less horrific. It doesn’t. All it does is put the burden on the person suffering to suffer more nobly. -- source link
