Save the planet from the people. Save the people of the planet from the people destroying the planet. #Repost @ninagualinga Women of the Amazon Some of us walked with our babies on our backs for two days. Some of us traveled by canoe three days. Some of us left our children at home. Some of us are pregnant. All of us are fighting for the survival of our people and together we worked on a mandate to hand over to the president of Ecuador. We asked for a meeting but there was no answer. From the deepest of the forests, we traveled to the capital Quito to the presidential palace but no one received us. We sung, we danced, we reached out to public media, we called for the citizens to raise their voices in support…we fought against the burning sun, we fought against the cold and altitude, we fought against racist comments, we fought for our children with fever and dehydration. Not a word from the president. Shameful. After five days we finally achieved a meeting with the presidential secretary who scheduled a 30 minute meeting on Thursday at 5 30 pm. Tomorrow we will hand over the mandate to the president. This mandate is about the new oil and mining concessions on indigenous land and physical and sexual violence related to extractivism. We also demand the government to act and protect our indigenous leaders who are being threatened to death for defending their territories. photos: @scornejor -- source link
