dynogone:Evolution of the Prussian/German neuer/Art (n/A) Artillery Sabre. The 1811 Model ‘Blucher’ Sabre (C.1814-1870) is based off the very influential British 1796 Light Cavalry Sabre (C.1796-1821). Basically a copy with slight differences, being sturdier with thicker components. The Prussians were supplied with the 1796P in 1809, until they had their own model. Both models of swords were used at The Battle of Waterloo by General Blucher and Wellington’s troops. The 1811M sabre later influenced Uhlan/Ulan and Artillery swords, creating the 1848M ‘ArtillerieSabel‘, being thinner and lighter in weight. This was then modified into the 1848M n/A Sabre ‘MannshaftSabel‘ (C.1890s-1916). A shortened version of the 1848M with the second suspension ring removed and replaced with a side-ring. They also had both a leather and bakelite grip, the bakelite being a later modification. The last model is a copy of the n/A, (C.1914-1945), having no sword knot hole and a bakelite grip. -- source link
