‘THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL’ - NINE INCH NAILSPROZAC ADVERTISEMENT: IDEAS DEVELOPMENTTRACK 4: M
‘THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL’ - NINE INCH NAILSPROZAC ADVERTISEMENT: IDEAS DEVELOPMENTTRACK 4: MARCH OF THE PIGSBased on one of my favourite parts of ‘The Downward Spiral’ album, the musical mood shift that accompanies the line “Now doesn’t it make you feel better?” I felt inspired to create a Nine Inch Nails poster that parodied a Prozac advertisement from years ago. My goal was to replicate the graphic and typographical elements of the ad with a backdrop of one of the pictures I had take on my search for interesting textures for this project. The picture is of a thorn bush at the forefront of a sunny blue sky. I loved the contrast in this image because it isn’t so apparent until you notice that the flowerless plants are actually branches of razor sharp thorns, natures barbed-wire. For those unaware of Prozac, it is an anti depressant with a bad habit of making people more depressed. Among its side effects are nausea, dizziness, anxiety, trouble sleeping, and in certain cases, suicidal thoughts. I was excited to have the opportunity to include The Downward Spiral’s visual motif accompanied by the three words given to Russell Mill’s by Trent to create the albums original artwork (attrition, decay, and wound) as well as the logo for Trent’s imprint record label, Nothing Records. -- source link
