If the details of what is happening to asylum seekers arriving by boat cannot be discussed for “operational reasons”, why was it that the recent AFP raids came with their own media teams, including video camera operators and still photographers? Surely there must have been more pressing operational reasons for keeping a lid on the AFP’s movements?2. Why did it take 800 Australian Federal Police Officers in two states to detain 16 people, 15 of which were released almost immediately, with no charge?3. Why is the 18 year-old shot dead by police still being branded a terrorist when people who knew him are saying that was manifestly not the case, and the AFP confirmed yesterday that he had made no threats against the Prime Minister?4. Why is it that a comedian with a Tumblr is asking these questions, as opposed to someone who, you know, works as a journalist?Importantly, the man there on the cover The Age (as well as SMH and the Canberra times) is actually not the man that was shot dead. These papers published a photo of an innocent school boy who has no connections to any terrorist activity, and who is now scared to leave the house.
