260 years ago on this day;4th of September 1755; Count Axel von Fersen, Marshal of the Realm to king Gustav IV and close confidante to Gustav III of Sweden, Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI of France, is born.In Sweden, he is known, among other things, for his dramatic career which led him to becoming the victim of a conspiracy in 1810, called ‘the lowest point of swedish disgrace’. Internationally, he is most known for his supposed love affair with queen Marie Antoinette, who helped him orchestrate the escape of the royal family during the French Revolution.He fought in 2 revolutions and his famous journals hints of almost 100 different mistresses. He has been featured in many works regarding this era in time, and was portrayed by Jamie Dornan in Sofia Coppola’s ‘Marie Antoinette’ from 2006. -- source link
