foultaleglitter:suppermariobroth: An obscure character from Paper Mario is the Trading Event Toad, who can be encountered only if Mario keeps switching between different stations on the radio in Koopa Village until a trading event is announced on the Information Station. For the event, Mario must bring a certain item to a specific place within 5 minutes of listening to the radio in order to receive a reward. The existence of the event is not alluded to anywhere else in the game, and the rewards are minor items that can be much more easily obtained elsewhere in the game (Maple Syrups and Yummy Meals); as such, even a player seeking to 100% complete the game may miss the event as all unique items/any tracked progression can be completed without ever encountering it.A notable property of the Trading Event Toad is that he looks very similar to Toadette, being the only other Toad in the entire Mario series with the same cap coloration as Toadette, as well as a very similar color scheme for his clothes. Toadette debuted only 3 years later. As Toadette first appeared in Mario Kart: Double Dash, which is not a Paper Mario game, it may at first appear as though the design is a coincidence; however, as I have pointed out in an earlier post, her Japanese name actually originates in Paper Mario, used for another character. As such, while it could still be a coincidence, there is a possibility that Toadette was created by taking the design/color scheme of one Toad character from Paper Mario and the name of another to create a kind of homage character to Paper Mario.
