~Classic Comics Saturday~—Those ’70s Comics: 894 Episode 512.5 - “Valentine’s Day Preparations” —Comments: On the show, Jackie and Hyde’s first I love yous to each other have a lot of significance for their characters and their relationship. I’ve written about this in the following metas: Hyde’s First On-Screen, “I Love You,” to Jackie Is an Unconsciously Selfish, Manipulative Act (But It Didn’t Have to Be) More On Hyde’s First and Only On-Screen, “I Love You,” to Jackie, and the Probably Reason Why He Was Never Written to Say It to Her Again How Jackie’s First, “I Love You,” to Hyde Differs from Hyde’s First, “I Love You,” to Jackie Why Jackie Doesn’t Say, “I Love You,” to Hyde More than Once on the Show, and How She and Hyde Express Their Love for Each Other Without Saying Those Three Specific Words In the comics, I explored the significance more deeply than the show does and make in-character corrections to the intention behind Hyde’s first, “I love you,” to Jackie. Jackie and Hyde have a lot complexity to their characters as individuals and as a couple, but since T7S is a half-hour (twenty-two minutes, really) sitcom, it didn’t delve as far into that complexity as it might have had the episodes been an hour long instead. But that left me (and others who write T7S fanfic, etc.) plenty of interesting places in Jackie and Hyde’s dynamic to dive into. — Sparklies Photoshop Brushes -- source link
