zynab1929: From the dream sequence of The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies (1964, Ray Dennis Steckler)I re-watched this recently after only having seen the MST3K version years and years ago and really enjoyed it! My boyfriend, who watched it with me, commented that this dream sequence reminded him of Kenneth Anger’s films–I agreed, but what he didn’t know was that that the use superimposition has long been a staple for fantasy and dream sequences, dating back to the silent days. It’s a pretty simple trick but it’s always ghostly and dreamlike–and I think just the act of placing one separate image over another, layering moments and dreams, is itself a magical thing to do and mimics the way human memory works. The bleeding candy colors and the non-integrated musical numbers of this movie also give it an early talkie two-strip technicolor musical vibe and structure, which I love. -- source link
