Vaipō WaterfallTo me this waterfall located on the island of Nuku Hiva in French Polynesia looks like a scene straight from Lord of the Rings (somewhere close to Rivendel). Although it appears that the horse-tail shaped waterfall does not even touch the ground it drops down a mere 350m, making it the highest waterfall of Polynesia.Vaipō drops down as a 3m wide single stream from a basalt plateau into a steep, nearly vertical cliff where 550 m tall pinnacles are scattered around. The wet and misty conditions add to the mysterious atmosphere covering the pinnacles in glistering green moss. This place really could be Middle Earth.-OW-Image: Yves Picq. Vaipō seems to be dropping into nothingness.References:http://www.wondermondo.com/Countries/Au/FrenchPolynesia/Marquesas/VaipoFalls.htmhttp://www.worldwaterfalldatabase.com/waterfall/Vaipo-Waterfall-83/ -- source link
