zeldafan42:zeldafan42:What’s this I hear about today being tell Dave about our treefolk walkers day? Well, I think I once gave @flavoracle a brief introduction to Granny Ygg, but it was in an ask, so this time I can go into more detail and add in this card I just designed for her.Granny Ygg is an elder treefolk from Lorwyn. Not capital-E elder like Bolas but rather elder in the sense that she’s an elderberry tree. However, she is a former oldwalker who has spent millennia traveling the Multiverse gathering and sharing knowledge, as well as adopting various communities as hers and protecting them. Granny Ygg isn’t her original name, but of the many names she’s gathered it’s the one she’s most fond of. Another title she’s fond of is the Witchtree, a nickname she’s earned because of her encyclopedic knowledge of so called “folk magic” and her eagerness to share it with others. She’s old enough to have mastered most types of magic that could be associated with her color identity and even some magic outside of it, but her specialties tend to involve magic of life, growth and renewal. She also has a particular magical trick when she wants to move around in a less cumbersome form where she can sort of plant her true body as a tree and leave it dormant while she projects her “mind and soul” in the form of a dryad. These days, I kind of imagine that without the vast power of an oldwalker she’s having a slightly harder time keeping an eye on all her adopted communities so she’s turning to other planeswalkers and mentoring them in exchange for aid in keeping up with “all her grandchildren” as she likes to call them. She’s the “big good” of my roster of fanwalkers. Reblogging this again for @flavoracle in case it got lost in the shuffle and honestly also for other people who missed it last night because I’m really proud of Granny Ygg.Yes, I absolutely remember Granny Ygg, and I totally adore her! I like contrasting her against Azor. Azor simply adopted different planes as projects and imposed systems of law as he saw fit. Granny Ygg, on the other hand, adopted other planes the way someone adopts a family member, listening and getting to know them, so she could help foster and grow the kind of wisdom and understanding that they actually needed. Also, I love how her name reminds me of Yggdrasil from Norse culture. -- source link
