By 2005, Trombone Shorty was recording with other musicians under the name Orleans Avenue, a group which also mixed hip hop and pop sounds into their work. Their first release under this name was called Orleans & Claiborne. In 2010, the group released their first album on a major label, Backatown. Following the album’s release, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue began touring extensively across the globe, playing numerous headlining gigs and festivals in addition to supporting Jeff Beck and Dave Matthews Band. In 2011, he released the follow up album to Backatown, entitled For True. The album featured contributions from Jeff Beck, Lenny Kravitz, Kid Rock, Warren Haynes, and the Rebirth Brass Band. 2012 saw further honors for Troy Andrews himself after receiving a President’s Medal from Tulane University honoring his charity work with the Horns for School project and playing the White House for a special Black History Month concert entitled In Performance at the White House: Red, White, & Blues. In 2013, he released his third album, Say That to Say This. The album features co-production from Raphael Saadiq and features a collaboration with the Meters - their first studio recording since 1977.
