The defense for winter is one of my favorite parts of being a northerner. People ask me all the time how do we do so many months of snow and cold and why do we put up with it. I tell them winter is a necessity for me. I live for winter sunsets and watching the sun rise on a winter day when the snow is freshly fallen and glitters like diamonds. The pink and purple hues that we only see at their best when the ground is white and frozen. The clouds take new shapes and the cold keeps me reminded of the importance of moving and the luxury of the warmth of summer. I don’t complain about the cold bc I believe it breeds resilience and strength in me and our family. Winter reminds us to make the most of the bounty of summer and fall. But most of all winter grounds us, slows us, and makes everything intentional and that is why I believe winter to be the greatest seasons of them all. So i say buy a warm coat and fleece lined pants and big sweaters and warm mittens and winter boots you love and a good hat and embrace the cold and how it cleanses your lungs and opens your mind. Don’t shutter and damn it bc don’t the greatest things come from the greatest challenges in life? I think so. For winter brings the flowers and light. http://ift.tt/2DjoEY7 -- source link
