Examine the digits of the common squeaker [Arthroleptis stenodactylus], a species native to Sub-Saharan Africa. The white crescent on the heel of their hind foot [bottom image] is a digging spade, which helps these frogs burrow into the soil of their habitat. This specimen was found in Kitwe, Zambia, by Mahomed Desai. -- source link
