Patton’s Pistols,General George S. Patton, love him or hate him, you have to admit he was one flamboyant personality. He wrote his own poetry. He was tougher than nails and was made famous for slapping a shell shocked GI. He was agressive, bold, and daring and inflicted a world of hurt on the German Army during World War II. He believed himself to be the reincarnation of ancient Roman generals. What is perhaps most iconic about Patton was his two ivory handled revolvers that he carried in cowbow holsters, his .45 single action colt and .357 magnum S&W Registered double action revolver. When in the field Patton was always seen with these two guns at his waist. (At first he had two single action .45’s, but he later gave one aways as a gift)The reason he carried two pistols was simple, during the expedition to track down Pancho Villa in 1914, he had emptied his pistol during a gunfight with some Mexican bandits and was left being unable to shoot back. He would make sure this would never happen again. While Patton carried carried his two revolvers in the field, there were times when he could not carry the bulky pistols. He also carried two pocket pistols from the three that he owned. The first was a .32 colt hammerless, which in a fit of rage his used to shoot at a German fighter plane that had strafed his headquarters. The second was a .38 Colt Detective Snub Nose revolver. Finally he also carried a .380 Remington Modle 51. No matter where he was, he was always heavily armed. Today his pistols can be found at the General Patton Museum in Fort Knox, Kentucky. -- source link
