lachelou: berserk-confessions: sirobvious: berserk-confessions: I’ll be honest, even though what he did afterwards was unjustifiable, the dream scene just before the eclipse where Griffith sees his idealized self point to the castle was very relatable You know I think the whole point of this scene was that what he did *before* was also pretty fucking bad. Griffith didn’t suddenly *turn* evil when he got tortured, he just got ahold of a more efficient way to do what he was already doing the whole time: Sacrificing the lives of his men for personal glory. This is even visible in the battle strategies he employs during the Golden Age Arc, frequently sending huge groups of soldiers straight to certain death as mere distractions while small units swoop in and surgically dismantle the enemy’s position. This a wonderful theory! And I guess this means that Griffith would have always sacrificed his army for his goal even if he wasn’t tortured or if Guts left. Exactly! It should also be taken into consideration how many people have already died for him to achieve his dream. They placed their hopes on him and sacrificed their lives so he could step upon them to get a step closer to his castle in the sky. What would happen to those dead, if he chose to abandon his dream? Wouldn’t they all have died in vain? With his dream, Griffith had an end to justify his means. Without his dream, how can he justify all the blood on his hands? How can he justify children dying in the crossfire, if it is not for a higher purpose? The band of the hawk pledged their lives for his cause. Griffith could very easily justify his actions through that pledge. They would sacrifice themselves in battle for him, so why not as a ritual sacrifice? For Griffith, those added lives to his already sky-high body count were just the final step to reach his castle. Either build that final step or watch it all crumble beneath your feet. You put into words what I wanted to convey perfectly! He had to achieve his goal so that their deaths meant something to him. Kinda admirable (well at least Griffith’s drive to achieve his dream), but extremely cruel. -- source link
