Cocoon Nebula In the huge star field you see above (yes every spot of light you see is a star! There may be some galaxies thrown in there somewhere don’t kill me), there’s one extremely active area of star formation and that’s the Cocoon Nebula. The red color you see is a large cloud, 15 light years wide, of hydrogen gas which is being excited by very young, blue, and hot stars, as you can see at the edge of the cloud. -- source link
