adhd-community: rapsbaer: Struggling with ADHD (and other mental illnesses) organizing things and keeping them organized is not one of my talents. At all. No. The first two pictures are in fact good daysI’ve had much worse. (much. worse.) So while I actually consider the before to be just a small mess it still took me 3 days to clean. I’d rather not do something at all than not do it properly. It has to be perfect. I get distracted easily :)))) I only have super short time periods in which I can force myself to stay motivated. executive dysfunction strikes again…. But now I am more than just satisfied with the outcome, because I was able to do it myself and it reached the level of perfect I am comfortable with. I didn’t only clean up my room but I also bought some plants and fairy lights to make my room look cuter. In general I just think my room now looks like it popped right out of an Ikea catalogue. And everything has its place even though my space is so limited. side note: I used to passionately hate pink.. now look at me ^.^ I find having everything in order really helps me clear my mind and relax. My room is messy most of the time but I hate having it that way. When you can work up the energy to clean it can be so wonderful. Something that has helped for me is listening to music while cleaning and sometimes setting an alarm of 5-15 minutes so I know I don’t have to do it for too long (trying to stop myself from the all or nothing scenario!). I’m so proud of adhders when they do something like clean their rooms or cook. It can be so hard and you are all amazing for getting things done. Anyone have any tips or tricks for cleaning? Setting a timer for a short burst of cleaning is SUCH a good idea. Why have I never thought of that?!My tip is to hire a cleaning service because that is how much I suck. Someone comes every other week while I’m at work and cleans up all my junk. So my credit cards won’t be paid off as soon as they would have been had I not hired the cleaning service … but at least I can find things sometimes! -- source link
