CP!3.9 is a thermonuclear warhead of Feels, and once again I am blown away by how much this cotton-candy-colored hell can hurt, but you know what? I’m glad. I’m glad that Ngozi is pulling no punches, because I feel like there’ve been so many successes in the queer movement that some people have gotten to this point where people forget that there are consequences to discrimination. Please don’t think that I’m demeaning the gains we’ve made as a community for both legal and social recognition, but we are more than a packed Pride, a joyful cheer at 2 am when an election is called, an intern running across the Supreme Court steps to share the word… We cannot forget that there are still so many people who can be fired for who they love, whether they live in states that don’t have anti-discrimination laws that recognize orientation or for ‘faith-based’ organizations (like Catholic hospitals or universities). So yo, we cannot rest on our laurels and consider our work for justice done. We need to show how brutal and exhausting and dehumanizing the closet is, so that our march toward equality is not stalled, so that they do not pat us on the head and tell us that we’ve come this far so be satisfied… No, our work is not done, and this is why. -- source link
