It burned down.. remember? You can see the SECOND Aziraphale realizes he’s right, and they can do this. #okay here we go i just need to get this out there #formulate my thesis if u will #crowley is so much #just #he deserves the world i’m. #look here’s this demön who keeps repeatedly handing over his lil heart #to reference my own tag #on a trashcan lid #just oh so gently stretching it out over and over again through the centuries #in more #run away with me #or less #i’ll give you a lift #grandiose ways #and eVERY TIME #his poor nervous angel freaks out and accidentally smacks him in the face w said trashcan lid #so he scrapes it up n tries again #sometimes in a few decades sometimes hours later #the devotion #god #the bravery #crowley is the bravest lil trashcan pizza server #good omens (via @bourboninthefireplace)And also, Crowley is just always, so consistently, heartrendingly gentle with Aziraphale. He never pushes. In fact it’s not until he knows they’ve lost, that the apocalypse is coming, and there is nothing they can do to stop it, that he even suggests that they run away together, and then, even though Aziraphale breaks his heart in that moment, by pushing him away, and ending everything between them, the minute he finds out that Hell is onto him and is coming for him, he goes back to Aziraphale, and apologises, and offers him yet another chance for them to be together. Crowley loves him so much, and is so frustrated by his misplaced loyalty to a Heaven that is by no means going to be loyal to him, but he gives Aziraphale the space to discover that for himself. And even here, even now, after everything, with Aziraphale falling back on his old fears and excuses, Crowley just gently reminds him of the truth, and then waits.Crowley is remarkable in the way he loves Aziraphale so selflessly, so patiently, so tenderly.Because the very first thing he ever watched Aziraphale do was shelter and protect the first humans, the first Fallen of Earth.Because when he felt miserable and tired in Rome, after floods and crucifixions and Caligula, Aziraphale approached him with a smile and invited him to enjoy something wonderful humans had made.Because Crowley knows what it’s like to lose everything, and not lose it by choice, but never ever have the chance to get it back. He knows how absolutely terrifying it is to not have a choice. He is never going to force that choice. Not even at the end of the world. Over the years, he could give Aziraphale up (but of course he won’t). He could give up on Aziraphale and decide he’s not worthy of love - but of course, he is.As far as Crowley’s concerned, he’d wait forever to be for Aziraphale what Aziraphale was for humans, was for him, when the angel hadn’t even been trying. Crowley’s face tho, as he says “You don’t have a side anymore” – that is 100% empathy and 0% i-told-you-so-and-i’ve-been-waiting-you-idiot. He is entirely here for Aziraphale even though it’s taken him this long to realize.I think Crowley truly understands how much he was asking of Aziraphale to turn his back on heaven, how hard it would be. That’s why he’s not impatient or angry or exhausted at this point, he is all sympathy. This was an impossible thing to do, yet his angel has done it. That’s the miracle. It reminds me for all the world of having friends come out/declare an orientation. No matter how long it took, no matter how many false starts, no matter how obvious it seemed, the victory when it finally happens is undiminished by how long it took.Sorry to add a caption of my own, but you have to hear the music in this scene too. (Future musicologist here, hello) David Arnold did a really good job using certain instruments to represent these two. Crowley is string instruments (often guitar or violin) and Aziraphale is high pitched bar instruments (glocks and celeste). When Crowley mentions the bookshop burned down and offers to let Aziraphale stay at his place, the strings lead in, followed by the celeste. Now this may be me tinfoil hatting, but the celeste is actually slightly off beat with the strings, not quite together. UNTIL. Crowley says “you don’t have a side anymore. neither of us do. we’re on our own side.” Then FINALLY the two instruments move together. It’s very subtle, but I think I’m onto something and also I love them. -- source link
