They are generally considered mythological. The year of Rome’s founding varies between 758 and 728 BC, but most accounts put the event around 753. As Romulus and Remus grew up, they discovered their true identity and decided to establish a city. The quarrels over where the city would be led to Romulus killing his brother. Romulus founded the city supposedly on Palatine Hill and named it ‘Rome’ after himself. Rome, under Romulus’s leadership, quickly grew in size and population, eventually becoming the most powerful city of the Ancient world.
