Apollo and his lovers — “Apollo was born a god but his life played like a moral tragedy. He was not an Aphrodite or an Eros, gods with thousands of mortals in love with them, he fell in love with hundreds of mortals with no reciprocal feeling returned. His first was Cassandra, but the sun god burned too fiercely and turned her away. Next was Daphne, a young nymph who didn’t want the warmth of Apollo and instead chose to live a life as foliage. His third gave him hope, his beloved Hyacinthus, but like an ancient tragedy, they were split apart by the finality of death. Finally was his undeclared passion he had for Icarus. He glistened in the sky as the young boy stared wanting to escape. When he finally had flown high in the sky, Apollo grasped and kissed him with longing. But this short moment enveloped Icarus in a burning, heated love, one that he couldn’t bear to handle. Now Apollo sits alone and ponders on why this curse of death and hatred has stained his life.” -- source link
