Le Duo (also known as ‘A Young Man Playing the Flute and a Young Woman Singing in a Landscape’) (c.1730). Nicolas Lancret (French, 1690-1743). Oil on canvas.By the 1730s Lancret had moved out of Antoine Watteau’s stylistic orbit and had established a distinctive style of his own. The faces of his figures had become less precious and more robust and his use of color more vivid. Here Lancret has made the flute player and young woman singing the central focus in this charming and intimate composition. -- source link
